Fibroblasts cell number density based human skin characterization at THz for in-body nanonetworks

چکیده
This paper presents the investigation of the electromagnetic properties of human skin tissues using Terahertz Time Domain Spectroscopy (THz-TDS). The material parameters i.e., refractive index and absorption coefficient are extracted for artificially synthesized skin cultured using fibroblast cells and collagen type I reagent. The increase in cell count number by 200% will cause a distinctive decrease in refractive index and absorption coefficient values. In addition to material parameters, in-body channel parameters i.e., total pathloss and molecular noise temperature of the skin are also calculated. The results show the dependency of channel parameters on molecular features and hydration level of the skin. Such findings will path the way for more rigorous THz channel analysis and network modeling to be applied for body-centric nano-communication specifically in the bioengineering domain. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd. Characterization of Human Skin Using THz Time Domain Spectroscopy for In-Body Nanonetworks
In this paper, the intrinsic material properties of human skin via THz Time Domain Spectroscopy have been investigated in a working frequency range from 0.1-1.5 THz. These measured material parameters are utilized to characterize the channel for inbody nano-networks. The sample for spectroscopic study is the real human skin and repeated measurements have provided consistent refractive index and...
متن کاملComparison of the Cytotoxic Effects of Nanoparticulate and Microparticulate Calcium Sodium Phosphosilicate Mouthwashes on Human Gingival Fibroblasts: an in-vitro Study
Introduction: This study sought to assess the cytotoxic effects of nanoparticulate and microparticulate calcium sodium phosphosilicate mouthwashes on human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs). Methods: This in vitro study was conducted on HGFs isolated and cultured in a 48-well plate containing standard culture medium for evaluation of four concentrations of the two m...
متن کاملApplication and Assessment of Allogeneic Fibroblasts for Cell Therapy
Background and Objective: In recent years, due to increasing number of patients with non-healing skin ulcers, skin substitutes have been used. Skin substitutes contain living cells causing faster and more effective wound healing. Therefore, research on the use of autologous and allogeneic cells such as fibroblasts in skin substitutes has attracted attentions. However, there are...
متن کاملEstablishment of a Primary Cell Culture of Human Fibroblast in Iran
Background: Human fibroblasts are the part of the dermis that secrete extracellular matrix for the purpose of tissue repair. Culturing fibroblasts, which leads to formation of a monolayer of these cells, is used for treating various conditions including thermal burns and other skin defects such as diabetic and varicose vein leg ulcers. Therefore, we aimed at developing a fibroblast bank to acco...
متن کاملIn vitro Co-Culture of Human Skin Keratinocytes and Fibroblasts on a Biocompatible and Biodegradable Scaffold
Background: Extensive full-thickness burns require replacement of both epidermis and dermis. In designing skin replacements, the goal has been to re-create this model and make a product which has both essential components. Methods: In the present study, we developed procedures for establishing confluent, stratified layers of cultured human keratinocytes on the surface of modified collagen-chito...
